Yin Yoga

Yoga teacher, Meg, has practiced with David Kim (E-RYT500) in Yin Yoga while participating in the 2014 Korea Yoga Conference in Seoul. Learning about Yin Yoga through David Kim has created a desire to learn more about this deeply mindful and slower-paced style of yoga. Continuing with her studies, Meg will travel to Osaka, Japan this February 2015 for a 30 hour Yoga Alliance Certified Yin Yoga Teacher training.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga directly stimulates joints and connective tissues in the body, this slower-paced practice builds internal heat through poses held for longer periods of time– three minutes or longer in each posture. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.

Yin Yoga is not a complete practice in itself, but a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine- cultivating an attention to the joints in the body, a slow mental movement towards inner stillness.
